Could you support us?

Our support team members are a fundamental part of Exmoor Search and Rescue. They help the team out in all sorts of ways, from acting as casualties on exercises, raising vital funds or offering technical advice. Here are a few stories form some of our current support Team members.

Sami: ‘As well as helping to promote the work of the Team with talks and raise much needed funds at public events, I also fulfil a number of other roles which include; Welfare Coordinator, Medical Administrator and Annual Training Weekend Administrator to name a few; and, I still train with the Medical Section to support and develop our Casualty Carers. I also act as a casualty or a casualty minder on training exercises when required, which is great to see the Team working on the hill and our Trainee Team Members gaining skills and confidence to become fully operational in due course. Finally, I think the most important job that I do, is to make sure that there is always a steady supply of tea, coffee and biscuits at our Headquarters for the whole ESRT family and knowing who likes to eat what! I think Welfare Coordinator covers this aspect, nourishing body as well as mind."

Over the next 10 years I must have attended and taken an active part in well over 100 call-outs. I had a stint as Comms Officer and a few years as a Search Manager, in my final year I also served as Chairman.

At some point, you have to recognise a limit to your ability to continue to make such a vast commitment, I therefore resigned and left the Operational arm of the Team in Feb 2017. However, I also couldn't just walk away from such a fantastic organisation and amazing bunch of people, who still very much deserved whatever support I could give, even if not so much and in a different form.

I therefore immediately volunteered my services as a Support Team Member. I am now one of the handful of the Support Team Members who can actively promote the team with a good knowledge of the both the charitable and operational requirements.

We're looking for new Support Team Members to join us! Could you help us? It’s good to volunteer…
