Ashreigney, Devon

The team were contacted by Devon & Cornwall Police in the early hours of Wednesday morning to assist with the recovery of an elderly gentleman who had passed away.  Due to the severe icy conditions, the Ambulance Service were unable to reach the village.

The team responded by sending three team members together with the Land Rover Ambulance to the location.  The 4x4 Land Rover made it through to the village and swiftly recovered the gentleman from his home and transported him to North Devon District Hospital.

Awliscombe, Devon

The team were contacted at 18.30 by Devon & Cornwall Police and tasked to search for a missing 83-year old gentleman from the Honiton area.  Given temperatures were already below zero during the evening, an urgent response was co-ordinated.
At the time the first team members were arriving, the missing person was reported sighted by a member of the public.  Team members and a Team Land Rover were sent to the reported location.  The gentleman was treated for hypothermia and stretchered to a nearby road, where an ambulance was waiting to take him to hospital.

Ilfracombe, Devon

The team were called out to help in a multi agency search (involving Police, Coastguard, RAF and RNLI) for a despondent female in the Ilfracombe area.  The missing person was located close to her home as the team were being deployed.

Combe Martin, Devon

On the way home from a night navigation exercise in woodland near Wheddon Cross, the team were called to help search for a missing 44 year old male Despondent in Combe Martin.

As the team arrived, HM Coastguard and RAF Search and Rescue were just completing their search of the nearby coastline, so the team combined with the Coastguard to search woodland around the village.

The missing person was soon located by an ESRT hasty search team in a lane near his home.  He was able to be walked back to the village.

Roborough, Barnstaple

The team’s assistance was requested by the Ambulance service to help carry a casualty with a broken ankle from a woodland location where he was injured, to a waiting ambulance.  Team members from the Barnstaple area responded and the situation was soon resolved.

Malmsmead, Devon

A lady had reported herself lost whilst out for a walk in the Brendon Common area.  The team were alerted to the situation and talked to the lady by mobile phone.  The situation was concluded when the lady found a nearby road.

Cotford St. Luke, Somerset

Avon and Somerset Police contacted the team at 0600 hrs to assist in the search for a missing 15-year old girl in the Cotford St. Luke area.  The team were soon stood down when the girl was found by the Police.

Ilfracombe, Devon

The team were called out by Devon and Cornwall Police to search for a despondant 49 yr old male, missing from a holiday park in Ilfracombe.

The search was conducted in conjunction with Police officers, helicopter and dog handler, SARDA dogs and Coastguard.  The Coastguard and helicopter had earlier searched the local cliffs and coastline and the team were tasked with widening the search to specific areas inland.

The team were stood down in the early hours of Thursday morning when the missing person was reported to be at North Devon District Hospital.

Horner Wood, Exmoor, Somerset

The team were contacted by South Western Ambulance Service in conjunction with the Air Ambulance to assist in the evacuation of a 14yr old male walker with a suspected neck injury.
The casualty was found near a footbridge in woodland by a doctor.  Whilst the team were en-route, the doctor, with help from members of the public, affected a carry out to a waiting ambulance.

Eggesford, Devon

A major multi-agency search was launched at Eggesford in Devon when a vulnerable 17 year old autistic teenager went missing at around 1830 hrs on Saturday evening.

Exmoor Search & Rescue Team were called at 2230 hrs alongside Police Specialist Search Teams, Dartmoor Rescue Group, Devon Cave Rescue Organisation, SARDA Dog Handlers, Cornwall Search & Rescue Team and both the Police and RAF Search & Rescue Helicopters.


The night was spent with individual teams intensively searching rivers, woodland, fields and tracks in the surrounding area.  By the morning, more reinforcements had arrived and searching continued in earnest.


At midday, a search team found the teenager's discarded clothes in the river.  The Police Helicopter was directed to the area and the teenager was soon found safe and well nearby.

Bishops Hull, Taunton, Somerset

The team were called out early on Saturday morning to assist in the search for an 82 year old man, missing from Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton the previous evening.  The police were extremely concerned for his welfare.  The surrounding area of the hospital was searched and following CCTV footage of the man heading north, large areas of open ground, parkland and rivers in the vicinity were also searched.

Around 0940 hrs a member of the public subsequently sighted the man very close to the search area and dialled 999.  A South Western Ambulance Service crew responded to the call and picked up the man who was transported safely back to the hospital.

Fremington, Devon

There was concern for a despondent male who had made off towards local woodland.  The team were soon stood down, when he was found to be safe.

Chard, Somerset

An early morning call was received from the Avon and Somerset Police to help in the search for a 83 year old male.  Large areas of the town and nearby countryside were searched by the Police, ESRT and A&S Search and Rescue.  Information obtained by a search team eventually lead to the male been found in a confused state in Taunton shortly before 16.00hrs.

Uffculme, Devon

The team searched in and around the village of Uffculme for a 31 year old male, missing from home since 21.30 hrs the previous evening.  At times helped by members of Dartmoor Rescue Group and SARDA search dogs, the team’s search was suspended at 20.00 hrs.


Update: The man has since been found safe.

Stolford, Somerset

A 13 year old youth had gone missing from his home during Saturday evening.  A search involving Police Dogs, Police Helicopter, RAF Helicopter, Coastguards as well as Exmoor Search and Rescue was successful when Police from Hinkley Point Power Station found the missing person at around 5.00am, safe and well.

Luxborough, Somerset

The team were quickly put on stand-by when a 10 year boy got separated from his parents whilst out walking in woodland.  He was soon afterwards located by his father.

Barnstaple, Devon

The team were put on stand-by to help the Devon and Cornwall Police with a search for a missing elderly male with Alzheimer's.  The Police located the missing person after a sighting by a member of the public.

Welcombe Mouth, Devon

A car belonging to a man missing since Thursday 5th February was found at 16.30hrs on Sunday 8th February in the car park next to the sea at Welcombe Mouth.  Initial Police and Coastguard searches did not find the missing person.  Exmoor Search and Rescue Team were asked to join the search the following morning.

The missing 45 year old male was found at 11.20hrs by a Coastguard team at nearby Marsland Mouth.  He was air lifted to Hospital by RAF Sea King Helicopter.

Cothelstone Hill, Somerset

The burning car of a missing 57 year old lady had been located by Police on the Quantock Hills. Police found the missing person, who required medical attention, before the arrival of the team.

Withycombe, Somerset

An 81 year old lady was reported by her family to be late back from a walk.  Given the freezing temperatures and time of day, the team were mobilised to search for the lady.  She was quickly found safe and well by a Police mobile unit.
