ESRT assist the northern teams in the York floods

Last week 7 members of ESRT travelled to York in the Hilux and Land Rover together with the boat, to assist their fellow northern mountain rescue teams after the flooding of the river Ouse. 3 swift water rescue technicians were supported by other team members to carry out welfare checks in the outlying cut off villages, take displaced members of the public back to their houses to collect medication, and on the last day assist in the evacuation of Tadcaster after the bridge collapsed causing a gas leak threat.
It was an exhausting two days, but wholly worthwhile to give other MR teams some respite from what has been a hectic month for them. Upon their return the team were full of praise for the locals, the welcome they had received and the great community spirit and team work displayed by all involved.
